🎯 Objective
Mastercard partnered with OpenRice to launch an innovative payment gateway solution in Hong Kong — introducing Tap on Own Device and Tap on Phone functionality via Mastercard Payment Gateway Services (MPGS). The goal of this video was to:
- Drive awareness of the new payment method
- Demonstrate how it works in a real-world restaurant setting
- Position Mastercard as a leader in digital payment innovation
🧠 Our Approach
We created a highly visual and dynamic video that blends real-world restaurant settings with virtual overlays to illustrate how Mastercard’s technology integrates seamlessly into everyday dining.
- Featured multiple restaurant environments to showcase versatility
- Used a model-led narrative to walk through both payment methods
- Combined live-action footage with UI-style motion graphics for clarity
- Maintained a modern, tech-forward tone aligned with Mastercard’s brand
The result is a video that feels informative, aspirational, and easy to follow — designed to speak to both consumers and restaurant operators.
📦 About the Programme
In a first for the Asia-Pacific region, OpenRice became the flagship merchant to adopt Mastercard's Tap on Own Device functionality within its mobile app — allowing users to pay by tapping their physical card directly on their phone.
Simultaneously, OpenRice introduced Hong Kong’s first Tap on Phone solution powered by Mastercard MPGS — enabling restaurant operators to use NFC-supported Android phones to accept card payments without terminals.
“This partnership reflects Mastercard’s commitment to using the dining industry as a brand touchpoint, enhancing identity through a multi-sensory strategy.”
— Helena Chen, General Manager, Mastercard Hong Kong and Macau
✅ Results

- Created valuable content for Mastercard and OpenRice to use in PR, digital, and in-app education
- The video was praised by the client for its energy, clarity, and brand alignment
- Helped reinforce Mastercard’s position as an innovation partner in the F&B sector
“Very engaging content that clearly communicated the benefits of our new technology — and made it feel intuitive for users.”
